SISC Unit Celebrates 21st Anniv with Eco-Awareness Theme

MANILA, Philippines -- The Basic Education Division of Southville International School and Colleges (SISC) recently held its annual Parade of Nations to mark its 21st anniversary.

The event themed "Promoting Environmental Sustainability through the 5Cs," was graced by guest Department of Environment and Natural Resources director Ramon Espeleta who represented Secretary Ramon Jesus Paje. He emphasized the important role of the youth in saving the environment and eventually combating climate change.

Jaime V. Ongpin Memorial Lecture set at Ateneo Rockwell

The Jaime V. Ongpin Institute of Business and Government Fund and the Ateneo de Manila University will hold the Jaime V. Ongpin 10th Annual Lecture at the Veritas Room of the Ateneo Professional Schools at the Rockwell Campus in Makati City on October 18, at 9 a.m. Registration starts at 8: 30 a.m.

The lecture titled: "2012 (not the movie): A Practical Guide to Disaster Risk and Preparedness" will be given by Ma. Antonia Yulo Loyzaga, executive director of the Manila Observatory. The panel of reactors will be composed of: Dr. Elisea G. Gozun, Ph.D., Dr. Alfredo Mahar Francisco A. Lagmay, Ph.D., and former Defense Sec. Gilberto C. Teodoro, Jr. Cheche Lazaro moderates.

The invocation will be led by Ateneo de Manila President Fr. Jose Villarin, S.J. and the opening remarks will be given by Antonio La ViƱa, JSD, dean of the Ateneo School of Government.

The annual memorial lecture aims to bring to the fore how the business and government sectors can partner together to bring about positive and corrective changes in national attitudes and events. UST Filipino Dept. holds National confab

The University of Santo Tomas Filipino Department will hold a national conference dubbed Hasaan 2: "Ang Filipino sa Hamon ng Pagbabagong Multidisiplinaryo: Pagtawid, Pagdikit, Pagpihit mula sa Pagkakapili-pilipit" on Oct. 18 to 20, at the Albertus Magnus Auditorium.

Focusing on the theme of Filipino in a multidisciplinary context, the event will feature respected experts, practitioners, writers and linguists in the different disciplines such as Dr. Tereso S. Tullao, Jr. of De La Salle University, Dr. Jovy M. Peregrino of the University of the Philippines, Dr. Venancio Mendiola of Philippine Normal University.

Dr. Roberto D. Ampil, chair of the Filipino Department, said the confab aims to advance Filipino, not only as a subject area, but as a discipline that is responsive to the higher needs of the teaching-learning process, creative writing, translation, research and other academic and professional pursuits.

It also seeks to cultivate the delegates’ skills as teachers of the Filipino language, curriculum planners, administrations, writers and researchers; and forge alliances and consortia for cross disciplinary sustainability in the Sciences, Philosophy, Literature, Technology and other areas.
